This is the configurator. It is how you set the options for how RoR looks and how it plays. It is also how you access multiplayer servers.

Simple Settings

  • CPU Settings - Slide the slider left or right based on how well your CPU performs. RoR generally uses a lot more CPU than other games so you may want to use a lower setting than you may use otherwise.
  • Graphics Settings - Slide the slider left or right based on how well your graphics card performs. If you have embedded graphics (like many laptops) you will want higher performance.

Graphics

Screen Configuration

  • Rendering Device (Windows)/RTT Mode (Linux)/??? (Mac)
  • Video Mode - The resolution you want to play RoR at. Custom resolutions can be specified in ogre.cfg, but note that the truck HUD will not scale properly.
  • Anti-aliasing - The amount of smoothing you want.
  • Texture Filtering
  • Full Screen
  • VSync - Turns on vertical synchronization.

Special Effects

  • Sky - Type of horizon/sky to use. Sandstorm is essentially no sky while Caelum has a sky and sun with artificial time.
  • Shadow Type
  • Water type
    • Enable Waves
    • Water spray - Show spray from hitting water
  • Vegetation
  • High quality reflective effects - Enable high quality reflections such as glossy paint and chrome.

Particle Systems

  • Dust - Show dust from the ground
  • Heat Haze - Show heat effects from turbojets

Cockpit options

  • Mirrors - Enable mirrors. To get the right mirror working, rotate the view far to the right when inside the truck.

Visual Effects

  • Sunburn
  • Bloom
  • Motion blur

Sound

  • No sound - Disable all sounds
  • Software - Use software sound device
  • Hardware - Use hardware sound device

CPU

  • 1 (Standard CPU) - Use only one thread. For single-core processors (Pentium 4, etc)
  • 2 (Hyper-Threading or Dual core CPU) - Spawn multiple threads, provides better calculation.

Advanced Wheel Model

  • Checking this enables the new wheel model with adjustable air pressure

Change control mappings for all aspects of RoR.

Network

  • Enable network mode - Force RoR to attempt a connection when started
  • Nickname - The name that appears to other users on the same server. Note that duplicate nicknames are not allowed.
  • Server list - Public list of servers from the server list. Only servers supported by the latest release are listed.
  • Server host name - Hostname or IP address of the server you are connecting to.
  • Server port number - The TCP port of the server
  • Server password - Only needed if the specified server is protected
  • User Token - The string found here. Not yet implemented, though!

Advanced

  • Screenshot Form
  • Lights - How detailed lights should be. Range from none to plus (where ALL lights will reflect off objects)
  • Clear Cache - Deletes the vehicle cache. Cache will be reloaded next time RoR begins.
  • Visibility range - How far in meters the map should be rendered from.
  • Fog - Toggle the blending of the horizon into fog
  • Engine smoke - Show engine smoke as exhaust
  • Custom particles - Enable particle system (only on specific vehicles)
  • Dashboard - Show the 3D speedometer/tachometer dashboard
  • Replay Mode - Enable replay mode
  • Debug Truck Mass - Output mass of every node of a truck in RoR.log
  • Debug Collision Meshes
  • Hydrax Water System - Experimental high quality water effects. Windows only!
  • Disable Overview Map
  • Disable Camera Pitching
  • Enable XFire extension
  • Enable visual beam debug - Display node numbers and more info along nodes and beams
